Cancer & the Kidney: an Increasing Concern

Since 2007, 5 studies reported Renal Insufficiency as highly prevalent in cancer patients:

  • France: 12.0% and 11.8% for eGFR<60
  • Belgium: 16.1% for eGFR<60
  • United States: 22% for eGFR<60
  • Japan: 25% for eGFR<60

Since 2010, 3 studies demonstrated that RI is significantly associated with reduced survival:

  • France: HR = 1.27 for patients with eGFR<60 (p=0.0002)
  • Japan: eGFR<60 = independent risk factor for death at 1 year
  • Korea:
    • HR = 1.12 for patients with eGFR<30
    • HR = 1.75 for patients with eGFR
